Adventurous Lake Powell Elopement

Kate and Ethan came all the way from Arkansas for their adventurous Lake Powell elopement. They wanted to travel all the way to southern Utah by themselves and my husband and I got to be witnesses for their ceremony (the state of Utah requires 2 witnesses). This was their first time ever visiting Utah and they absolutely fell in love with it while they were here. We started their wedding day off with sunrise at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. They wanted to have a first look here so I picked up Kate from her Airbnb in Kanab at 6:00 am and headed to the dunes. The sand dunes in the morning are absolutely gorgeous – beautiful pink skies and the dunes looked stunning with the golden light! They had their quick and simple ceremony on the dunes as they wanted to read vows to each other at the Lake Powell location for sunset 🙂 We spent about an hour taking photos at the dunes before we took our midday hiatus before meeting up for the second half of their adventurous Lake Powell elopement.

After the first half of their day we decided to take a break in between because it’s southern Utah in late August so the middle of the day would be pretty miserably hot 😉 They really wanted some great details photos so I met back up with them at their airbnb to take those and some getting ready photos for them! We then hopped in their rental Jeep to head up to probably my favorite place in all of southern Utah – Lake Powell! Lake Powell is absolutely gorgeous and makes the perfect backdrop for your adventurous elopement. It is a 2 hour Jeep drive up a rugged dirt road to get to the overlook we went to. We didn’t see a single other car or person the entire time we were there so this location made for such a great spot for them to read their vows to each other and share their first dance, which was to Taylor Swift’s Lover (literally my favorite song ever)!

They read their vows and shared their first dance before we took some sunset photos at the overlook. Watching the colors of Lake Powell change below us was absolutely gorgeous! I also brought these super cool lanterns that I bought on Amazon so we could take some unique wedding day photos after the sun had set. We then hopped back in the Jeep and made the trek back down to town. It was such a fun, intimate, and intentional wedding day filled with the beauty that souther Utah has to offer.
