As an elopement photographer, there are certain days that just stick with you — and Jordan and Matt’s Delicate Arch hiking elopement in Arches National Park is one I’ll never forget. From the first golden rays of sun over red sandstone to the emotional vows shared beneath Utah’s most iconic arch, this day was the definition of wild, intimate, and meaningful.
Although you can’t actually get married at Delicate Arch, you can hike to it and take some wedding photos! So if you’re dreaming of eloping at Delicate Arch or anywhere in the red rock desert, I’m excited to share what made this spring elopement so magical — plus tips for planning your own hiking elopement in Arches National Park 🙂
We started our morning in complete darkness. Headlamps on, boots laced up, and backpacks full of florals, water, and wedding gear. Jordan and Matt chose to have their elopement photos at sunrise at Delicate Arch to avoid the crowds — and trust me, it was 100% worth the early wake-up call.
The 3-mile round-trip hike is moderate, but with wedding attire in tow, it’s a true adventure. The sky began to shift from deep blue to warm pink as we reached the iconic arch.
After we hiked to the arch, we explored the area around the arch, capturing wedding portraits with dramatic desert backdrops and that incredible spring light. Jordan’s dried flower bouquet picked up the earthy tones of the landscape perfectly — a beautiful nod to the colors of the Southwest.
As we hiked back, we paused at scenic spots along the slickrock trail. Jordan swapped her hiking boots for sandals while Matt helped carry her train, and we laughed about the surreal beauty of it all. By the time we reached the parking lot, the trail was starting to fill with tourists, which is why waking up early is so worth it!!
If you’re considering a hiking elopement in Utah, Delicate Arch is a bucket-list location — but it does require thoughtful planning. Here’s why it works (and what to know before you go):
Jordan and Matt chose mid-March — one of the best times of year for an elopement in Moab. Temperatures were comfortable (mid-60s), the skies were clear, and the desert wasn’t scorching hot yet. Spring also brings a few pops of desert wildflowers, adding a subtle burst of color to the otherwise red-and-orange landscape.
If you’re not a fan of extreme heat, March through early May is ideal for your Arches National Park elopement.
What made Jordan and Matt’s elopement at Delicate Arch so special wasn’t just the jaw-dropping location — it was their connection, their willingness to hike in the dark together, and their deep focus on what mattered most. It wasn’t about the details or decor — it was about them.
