Kai + Tim | Sunrise Canyon Overlook Engagement

Kai and Tim came all the way from Arkansas for their sunrise engagement session at Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park. This great couple met while they were in the military in Japan and have been traveling the world together since. Tim was originally going to be proposing to Kai on this trip and we had been in communication planning everything out. At the last minute, he decided to propose at their home so they could do their engagement photos in Zion National Park instead. I suggested sunrise to beat the crowds and get those gorgeous pink skies and baby blue colors.

Planning Your Zion National Park Session

Where to Stay

I recommend staying in Springdale, Utah if possible. This was you’re the closest to Zion National Park plus some really amazing restaurants and views. A lot of people will stay in St. George, Utah, which is more budget-friendly, but keep in mind that it is an hour away. Hurricane, Utah is halfway between St. George and Zion National Park and that’s also a great option.

Springdale Hotels – make sure to book a place to stay far in advance

Bumbleberry Inn

Holiday Inn Express

La Quinta

Under Canvas

There’s also some great Airbnbs and VRBOs in the area!

Where to Eat

Bit & Spur – my favorite restaurant in town. They have really good enchiladas & margaritas!

Oscar’s Cafe

Spotted Dog Cafe

MeMe’s Cafe

The Park House

Where to Hike

Angel’s Landing

Canyon Overlook

The Narrows

Observation Point

Kolob Terrace Road

Shuttle

During most of the year, there is a shuttle that takes you in the main canyon of Zion National Park (like where Angels Landing and the Narrows are). The park does get crowded between the months of March and September and around the holidays so make sure to arrive early. There is parking at the entrance of the park that fills quickly to catch the shuttle, but there is parking all in Springdale. The spots I like to take photos at do not require the shuttle.
