You might be wondering, “what in the world is a wedding at the Church of Dirt in Park City?” Well – it’s this little community, free place to get married on the top of Empire Pass in Park City. I am a Park City wedding photographer so I absolutely love coming here and it’s a really special spot for me. When Laura and Reid reached out to me about photographing their wedding on October 11th at the Church of Dirt, I knew it was fate because that’s my anniversary AND the place I got married. They hired a second photographer, who is my husband, so it was super special for us to get to photograph a wedding at the same spot we got married on our anniversary 🙂

But enough about us, let’s talk about this amazing couple and wedding day. Laura and Reid are both from the midwest. They literally met as strangers on a ski lift at Brighton Resort (I mean, what!?) and started dating long-distance until Laura moved out west. Now they have a little family consisting of their dog, Bodie. Their wedding day was truly amazing. It snowed the night before and was FREEZING, but everyone was troopers! We quickly took some photos after the ceremony before heading to their super fun and cozy reception at Silver Fork Lodge.

How Do I Have a Church of Dirt Park City Wedding?

To get married at the Church of Dirt, you will need to visit the spot and sign up for your date. You can write your name, date, and phone number on a rock, block of wood, or really anything you can find! It’s pretty easy and people are respectful of dates already “booked”. Please keep in mind that this location is only available when there is no snow on the mountains. It’s super eclectic and super cool! This spot is becoming more popular so make sure you sign up for your date in advance.

This location is on top of a mountain so keep that in mind when planning your elopement there. The best months to get married there are June through early October. It could snow anytime up there though 🙂

How Many People Can I Invite?

The Church of Dirt is pretty small plus the parking is very limited so I recommend have 50 guests maximum. It would be a great spot to have an elopement, which is what my husband and I did. I have heard of shuttles that drop guests off here from the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon as well to make things a little easier.
